Mr. Young

My final role model for the year is my Pre-Cal teacher Mr. young. This is because, he is such a free spirit. Throughout the year I have learned many life lessons from him, things I would need to know for next year. He also is fair, he takes everything into consideration before making a decision. When I say this I mean that he treat the students as equals. In my opinion that is extremely rare. He is basically a super cool teacher, I enjoy every day I spend in his class. I am also looking forward to spending my senior year in his class as well. Thank you for all of your help :)

Courtney Stacy

My role model for this week is Courtney Stacy, this is simply because she is just fabulous. Every time I see her it inspires me to do something different, or improve myself. Iv'e learned so much from, she kind of like my bug sister. She also taught me to do whats makes me happy despite of what other people think. This most important thing is that she is extremely honest with me. Like she is so blunt about everything, I will never have to worry about her leading me in the wrong direction.

Mr.Bray

My role model for this week is Mr. Bray. This is because, he teaches me patience. As a principle I know the job can get stressful, and he still keeps his cool. Thats what I admire about him, I don't know how he does it. If i was him I would go insane, especially with class of 2016. Also, it seems like he finds the bright side of every situation. He never jumps to the deep end. Also, everytime I go in his office he have talks on how to better the school and I feel like I grow a little more each time. He is definitely molding us to be leaders of the 21st century.

Beside's Money?

Yes, scholarships provide people with financial support when it comes to their education. However, scholarships give's students recognition to whatever they accomplished. This gives students that boost of confidence they will need to complete college. It also gives them motivation to work hard in college, because you have to meet certain requirements in order to keep your scholarship. In addition, Scholarships look good on college resumes, it shows they college that you are hard working and you wont have any financial issues. Scholarships also give everyone an opportunity to get an education, struggling is not an excuse,

Tyra Banks

My role model is Tyra Banks. This is because she has built herself over the years and worked on being the best she could possibly be. Also she doesn't let the modeling industry mold her into something she's not. There has been times where people have told her she was too fat or not pretty enough but she never altered herself. This was because she knows how she is as a person. Also, she also built a brand for herself. Moral of the story her confidence is admiring, and that's a trait i hope i gain over time.

Am I Ready?

When it comes to college I'm not that prepared at all. First things first I need to get my GPA up but, my Dual GPA is good so it should balance out some. I also need to apply for scholarships because I haven't even looked up any deadlines or anything. Plus I haven't took my ACT and my SAT score could be higher.
To Do List:
Take my SAT and ACT : I will take them again in September of 2015
Apply for my colleges : I will apply for college in December
Apply for scholarships: I will apply for scholarships as soon as possible
Get my transcript ready: I will do that after this school year. Or after the first semester of next school year.
Get letter of recommendation: I will do that at the being of next school year.

How Am I Doing Academically?
Academically I can be doing better and I don't think I am ready for college at this point. My GPA isn't where I want it to be. However, I take dual credit and that will help a lot

Are they right for me? .
I have always wanted to go to one of the three colleges that I choose. (LSU,SFA, and UNT.) I want to go to these places because they are close but not close at the same time. I will be grateful to go to any one of them. Also, I don't think i need to modify my search because its realistic for me to get into these colleges. The only thing is LSU is very expensive.

Tiara Sanders

My role model for this week is Tiara Sanders. This is because she is very driven to be successful. She works, runs track, and still gets Straight A's. This is inspirational to me because she never gets lazy. She is one of the reasons i try to do my best in school now. She just shows me what I can be capable of if I work hard. She also has fun and hangs out with friends so its like the best of both worlds.

Getting a college degree is definitely worth the money and effort. With out a college degree you are view as lazy or lower class. This is because most people without college degrees work long hour shifts on their feet a fast food restaurant or minimum wage job. So, in my opinion college is definityly worth it because it is temporary. However, living in misery is forever. I also, feel like the United States is doing a good job when it comes to opportunities after getting a education. This is because other countries such as china and mexico go to school for a longer amount of time and do not get the same benefits. China goes to school and still end up working a long shift, hard labor job. In mexico they get their associates in 4 years instead of 2, making people less likely to goon with their degree.

role model

My role model is Bryson Shull for becoming a man. He has recently made a bad decision and he is being a man and trying to make up for it.  He has realized his actions and are doing everything to make it right. I look up to that because that's a part of growing up. You have to be grow up and own to your mistakes.

Aunt Felicia

My role model is my Aunt Felicia, she is very successful for her age. She is 25 years old already graduated, a 3rd grade teacher, owns her own house, and a BMW. She accomplished all of this so fast by staying focused at all times. Se kept her eyes on the prize and never drifted. Also, she is a fashionista, she always is up to date to the new trends. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be like her. She is truly my role model.

friday

1. Who is the most influential leader you have ever had? Why did he or she have such an influence on you?
The most influential leader in my life is my mom of course. This is because she cares for me day by day and is very successful for her age. There is not a day that goes by that I don't say my mom is my goals.

2.“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering; these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love; these are what we stay alive for.” Professor John Keating says this—what do you think it means? Do you agree? What are your views on poetry and why we read it?
When keating says this I think he means poetry is more then just words that rhyme, I think poetry is a way for someone to express themselves. So, Yes I do agree with Mr. Keating.

3.“I stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way. The world looks very different up here… Just when you think you know something you have to look at it in another way… When you read, don’t just consider what the author thinks, you must consider what you think.” Comment on this quote from Professor Keating. Do you agree? Why or why not? Do you have a personal story about a time you took another perspective?
Yes, I agree with Mr. Keating and this is because sometimes you have to look at others people perspective in order to view things both ways. Also, others look at things different from one another and a person has to understand that in order t fully understand something.  Especially something as complex as poetry.
4.Keating asks his students to consider what their ‘verse,’ or lasting impression, will be when they leave either Welton or this world. What ‘verse’ will you contribute in your lifetime? What do you hope will be the lasting impression you leave behind?
My lasting impression I will leave behind is that I was hard working and I tried my best in everything I do. I will never have people think I just slacked.

Thursday Dead Poets Society

In my opinion I feel like if anything the suicide would have came a lot earlier if Neil wouldn't have met Mr. Keating, he held off the suicide a little be longer in order for Neil to be able to find himself a little bit more. The bravest out of Keating's boys was Charlie; he was the rebel out f the group. Charlie made that illegal article knowing the consequences but he still sated how he felt. Also, charlie took the blame for everyone and got beat with a paddle in exchange for his loyalty. The coward in the group was Neil and this is because he committed suicide instead of fighting for what he wanted. In my opinion he could of tried harder to convince his father.  I believe Mr.Keating put the book there as a way to get the boys thinking, and he wanted them to take interest into the book. Also, he wanted them to know they probably wouldn't approve but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do what they desire.

Centra Theme

The central theme of the Dead Poets Society is to be your own person and find yourself. Throughout the story each character went through obstacles to over come their fears. For Example, Todd had to learn how to come out of his shell in order to stick up for Mr.Keating and develop such a strong bond with Neil. Neil tends to build Todd up and gives him the self esteem and confidence he desperately needs. Another character is Charlie, he is very rebellious and loyal to his friends Nr.Keating gives him a boost to his rebellion. Another character is Knox, he has to overcome his Shyness in order to confess his love to a girl named Chris. Lastly, Nail which was the only character that did not overcome anything through out the story. He gave up instead of fighting for what he desired.

follow up character questions :)

~ Todd is the character that transformed the most through out the movie. My reasoning for saying that is because when he first came to Welton he was very shy and then towards the end he became a lot more outspoken. He became apart of the group of friends, becoming really close to Neil.
~Mr. Keating did not change through out the film at all, this is because he did what he believed in and he taught in a way to interact with the students. Mr. Keating did this eve if the school asked him not to.
~Mr. Keating once again is a static in nature character because even though he got fired he kept his held up high and still had the same beliefs. Also through out the story I'm sure Mr.Keating was aware of the consequences but he simply did what he thought was right.
~ Todd Anderson fear was not being excepted and branching out to other things. In my opinion Todd overcame his fears because at the end of the movie he stood up for what was right, and through out the movie he became more open with his group of friends.
Neil Perry fear was that he would disappoint his father and not be able to ever make his own decisions in life. In my opinion he did fail, this is because he gave up hope and committed suicide instead of facing his fears like a man. So in this way he ever was even able to conquer his fears.
Knox Overstreet fear was to come out and express his feelings and he overcame this fear by admitted to the a girl that he liked how he felt about her. Yes, rejection and humiliation was a issue but he never gave up hope.
I don't think Charlie had any fears.

Mona Lisa Smile 2

Womens role in the 1950s was the basically be submissive is every way. They was brought up to think that everything revolves around their husband. They was expected to take care of all of the house work and raise their kids on their own. They was basically a servant in a way. Also, they was expected to be thought of in a positive way in society, By doing this they always looked nice, and participated in social events to stay undated. Perfection was the goal for these women. However, Katherine felt like woman had every right to do what men could. She wanted her students to be independent and to realize that they didn't need a husband to be happy. She also felt like women needed to do what mad them happy and successful. Basically Katherine wasn't the "basic" type of woman. Katherine did what made her happy, no matter how people felt about it. Through out the story Katherine's opinion reached out to one student in particular, Betty. Betty was one of her students who was currently married while she was in college. You could tell that Betty was only getting married to satisfy others, such as her mother. In the 1950s is was expected for woman to get married,it was the "proper" thing to do. This is why Betty tried to stick it out. However her husband started to cheat and that was the last straw. She started to realize that she deserved better and this was by Katherine help and honest opinion. Her mothers wasn't even there to help her because he was the "unproper" thing to do in society.

Harriet Tubman

My fourth role model is Harriet Tubman. She was born in maryland in 1820, and successfully escaped slavery in 1849. However, she returned to the plantation plenty of times in order to free her family and friends. She led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom along the route of the underground railroad. The took dangerous risk every time she returned but in her eyes it was worth it. In my opinion without her bravery alot of things would not have happened. This is why she is on eof my role models. Her bravery is incredible, she put her on the life for hundreds of people. And each time she never asked for anything in return, this is why she was so loved.

Gabby Douglas

My third role model is gabby douglas, she was born December 31,1995. She was he first African American to win the individual all around event. She also won a gold medal for the U.S at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She showed me everything is possible with faith and hard work. Also, she didnt win just for the title, she won for her family. Also she was determined to accomplish a difficult goal. I use her drive to help me remember hard work pays off, we will always have time for fun. In order to succeed you have to stay focused.

Charles vs. Catherine

The difference between Charles and Catherine view on life and teaching is Catherine is more outside of the box. Catherine felt like life is precious and should be spent the right way, make everything count. She wanted to actually interact with the students, She cared about how they felt about her class. For example towards the beginning of the movie Catherine completely changed the syllabus that she first gave to the students. Her reasoning for this is because she wanted interaction from the students. Your at school to learn new things day by day not go over things that you already know. This is why she found different ways to teach, WITHOUT THE TEXTBOOK. She even took as far as showing them a painting that she painted herself when she was a child. She did this because she wanted to make them think, she wanted to stimulate their minds in every way possible. Catherine was also kind of a mentor to her students. She freely expressed how she felt about life, changing Betty's life for the good. While Charles was strictly about facts. He wanting nothing more or less then the textbook. He felt like everything else would be irrelevant to the students. Everything was strictly professional.

Fav theme

My favorite theme of the movie is to do exactly what makes you happy, no matter of how people will view you. You live your life for you and not anyone else. I think that is beneficial in many cases. For example when Jone decided to be a full time wife, she did that for her because that's all she wanted in life. OR when Betty got a divorce she did that because she knew if was the right thing for her as person. Despite of what her mom would think about it.

Mona Lisa Smile

I feel like the movie is going to start off with tension between the students and the teacher. This will be because they both have separate views on what their priorities should be in life. For the students they are worried about being married and living happily ever after, they will throw away their education  in order to make this possible. For the teacher she wants to show them they are too intelligent and talented for that to be the case. I feel like the story will end with meeting a mutual agreement about how they should see their future.

Beyonce Knowles

Beyonce Knowles was born September 4th 1981, she is a singer songwriter and actress. She is from Houston Tx. She is my second role model because she represents a positive figure for all women. She is successful, independent, attractive etc. I mainly look up to her success and the way she carries herself as a woman. She separates business and her personal life at all times, she knows how to keep everything in balance. She has also worked very hard to get to the place she is at now, due to that she has continued to stay on the right track. She basically did everything in her life the right way and look at her now.

colege vs. Highschool

Im in highschool and i usually study for exams the day of or the night before. However, I realized by doing this I only remember the information until after the test. But this seemed to work for me because it not that much information I had to memorize in a small amount of time. But this would not work in college, this is because college exams cover alot more material then high school exams. Thats why in college I will distribute my study time wisely instead of cramming the day before. Basically I have to be more responsible and less lazy.

Number One Role Model

My number one role model is my mother. She is the most uplifting and caring person in my life. There is not a day that goes by that I don't look up to her and say " I want to be like you when I grow up". The reason I feel this way is because everything she does, says, and owns is for me to be successful in life. She will always put me before herself and will take extra time out to make sure I'm okay and happy. In my eyes that's the real definition of a mother. I will always be grateful to have her and I hope I can do the same things she does for me, for my children.
